A Green Renovation

Partnerships

Officers from the Trust, along with Bournville Architects, service suppliers, manufacturers and contractors met to discuss and arrange this special project. Items such as kitchen units and bathroom components were provided ‘free of charge’. Grant funding for microgeneration features from British Gas via the Government’s "Low Carbon Building Programme" has been investigated.

We also teamed up with the local secondary school, Kings Norton Girls School, where 30 pupils of Year 9 prepared an eco-home project and have worked in conjunction with Bournville Village Trust to deliver this exciting project. We also worked closely with Bournville Village Landscapes to deliver the garden proposals.

B N KAUSHAL LIMITED

BNK were established as a family business in the mid 1970’s based in the Moseley area.

Since this time they have been carrying out major refurbishment and routine repairs for a number of organisations and they currently employ around 30 skilled tradesmen from various ethnic communities.

BNK were selected for this particular scheme based on the experience they have gained through carrying out similar projects for other housing associations in the Midlands.

They also came with the recommendation of Richard Baines, Director of Sustainable Development from the Black Country Housing Group, who is considered to be an environmental guru.

BNK have advised on a number of initiatives that were not originally included in the specification and have also been able to recommend some of the equipment that has been used, including the technology involved in the ground source heating; LED lighting and thermal insulation amongst other things.

As a result of their commitment to this scheme, they are now on Bournville Village Trust’s list of approved contractors.
