LOCAL LAD WINS NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP AWARD

Local apprentice, Thomas Davidson has won a national award from the organisation that represents repairs and maintenance divisions of housing associations and registered social landlords in the UK.
18 year old Thomas, who has been working for two years on an apprenticeship scheme with Bournville Village Trust has received a 'First Year Best Apprentice' prize awarded by the Directworks Forum. It was presented by Peter Dixon, Chair of the Housing Corporation.
The criteria for winning the award included favourable comments from Bournville Village Trust and South Birmingham College and Thomas had to outline the reasons he had entered.
Thomas who lives in Cotteridge and attends college for one day a week is helping to install doors and windows and new kitchens. He is also carrying out joinery repairs for tenants of the oldest housing association in the West Midlands, which was founded by George Cadbury.
Thomas said: "I am very pleased to receive the award and thankful to the Trust for entering me in the competition and for giving me the opportunity to learn."
Rodney Smith, Director of Contracting Services with Bournville Propertycare Services said: "Bournville Village Trust has always taken on apprentices and trained them for a future career with the Trust. We are proud to say that they stay with us for many years."
