Award Winning Architect Joins Bournville Architects

An award winning architect has been appointed to head up Bournville Architects.

38 years old Ian Tipton who has won a number of design competitions throughout the UK, is the new Executive Director of Bournville Architects, part of Bournville Village Trust, the charity founded by George Cadbury in 1900 to manage his housing estate.

Ian has considerable experience in all sectors of the construction industry, including regeneration, new build and refurbishment projects.

The design of sustainable communities and sustainable design solutions are central to his ethos and he has also developed a specialism in accessible design and the implications of the Disability Discrimination Act.

Bournville Architects is responsible for the design of multi million pound housing development schemes throughout the UK which includes the £25 million regeneration of Shenley in South Birmingham. Sixty percent of work is for outside clients and the organisation is a preferred partner for Birmingham City Council.

Prior to his appointment Ian was responsible for setting up the Birmingham office of SMC and before that he was an associate with the award winning practice D5 Architects.

Ian says: "I am looking forward to the opportunity to take the helm of this unique and award winning practice with our shared mission statement of creating and sustaining flourishing communities. We will be helping to develop the Cadbury vision for all our projects, whether it is housing, health care, education or commercial."

In his spare time Ian like golf, fencing, surfing and the great outdoors.
