Molly who has lived in Bournville for 42 years takes great pride in the appearance of her garden and has taken part in the competition for the last eight years.

Organised by landlord, Bournville Village Trust, the annual competition is always popular, with over 100 residents entering each year. This year, there were 120 entries for the many categories. The overall winning trophy was presented by a former employee of the Trust, Pat Beasley, MBE. It was Pat’s idea to hold the first garden competition twenty years previously.

Molly said: "I get a lot of satisfaction from gardening and it gives me a lot of pleasure. My friend, Jean Powell and I open our gardens to the local community every year and raise funds for the local hospice."

Gloria Gain at Bournville Village Trust said: "Bournville Village Trust takes great pride in the appearance of the estate. We encourage our residents to cultivate their gardens for pleasure which contributes to the 'chocolate box' image we are internationally renown for."

For the twentieth anniversary this year, the awards evening was held at the Botanical Gardens on 17th November where residents received trophies and garden vouchers.
