Bournville Recognises Young High Achievers
January 16 2007
Bournville Village Trust has presented awards to young people in recognition of the difference they have made during 2006 in the Bournville community. 11 years old Sian Richards and Jessica Bayley, 13 years old Emma Jones, 15 years old Heather Haddon and 16 years old Marie Watts were amongst the teenagers who have spent their free time helping others.
The awards were made at a Young People's Conference which was attended by over fifty 11-18 year olds at the Epic Skate Park in Moseley. A range of fun activities included graffiti and DJ workshops. Information was provided on education and training opportunities and the one day event ended with a disco and buffet.
The conference was one of many innovative projects to support young people, some of which Bournville Village Trust has won national awards for. All youngsters living or studying on the Bournville estate were invited to attend. Other organisations which supported the conference included West Midlands Police, Connexions and Bournville College.
Rebecca Debenham at Bournville Village Trust said: "It was heart warming to see the faces of the young people who received awards. They worked hard carrying out repairs, litter picking and generally helping out. It was unfortunate that we were only able to offer fifty places as we had over 150 applications."
