BIRMINGHAM LANDLORD WINS THE DAY
October 25 2005
Birmingham landlord, Ashram, won the challenge for supremacy as a group of housing associations battled it out on the sports pitch on Sunday October 16.
It was all in aid of a good cause though as teams (comprising of officers & residents) from Trident, Bournville Village Trust, Mercian, Family, Waterloo, Harden, Astonbrook and Ashram took part in tough physical and mental activities based around the TV show, 'It's a Knockout'.
The Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor John Hood was the main guest and over 11,000 residents were invited to attend and support their landlord at the carnival, which took place from 11am to 3pm at Nechells Sports Centre in Bloomsbury.
The day of fun and activity included DJ workshops, interactive theatre workshops, face and henna painting demonstrations, a bouncy castle and soft play areas for children. An Ashram resident also won £500 of Argos vouchers and residents from Bournville Village Trust, Mercian and Astonbrook won gift vouchers for Debenhams in the basketball, five a side football and logo competitions, which was sponsored by the Network Recruitment Partnership. £170 was raised by the Woodland Tenants Association (www.woodlandstenants.co.uk) on the tombola stand.
The very diverse number of residents who attended was able to try out an international menu of free cuisine, which included Indian, Chinese, Somalian, Jamaican and English food.
