PUPILS CELEBRATE TREE COUNCIL'S 30TH ANNIVERSARY

Far from decorating the tree this Christmas, pupils from St. Francis School in Bournville will be planting the tree, in fact, ten altogether. Year two schoolchildren are helping to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Tree Council's National Tree Week by transforming their school grounds into a greener environment. click here

77 year old resident of Bournville, Molly Archer is celebrating as she was awarded a trophy dedicated to the overall winner in a popular annual garden competition, which this year celebrates its twentieth anniversary. For the twentieth anniversary this year, the awards evening was held at the Botanical Gardens on 17th November where residents received trophies and garden vouchers. click here

THE BIRMINGHAM FOCUS ON BLINDNESS TREE OF LIGHT APPEAL 2005

Throughout Christmas 2005 the 'Famous Bournville Christmas Tree' outside the Quaker Meeting House on The Green in Bournville, has been designated as a special tree to celebrate and remember the 30,000 local children and adults who are blind or sight impaired and who cannot appreciate the magnificent sight of the tree fully decked with lights at Christmas. We would like to invite you to support Birmingham Focus on Blindness in remembering those without sight by sponsoring a light on our Tree of Light. click here
BIRMINGHAM LANDLORD WINS THE DAY

Birmingham landlord, Ashram, won the challenge for supremacy as a group of housing associations battled it out on the sports pitch. It was all in aid of a good cause though as teams took part in tough physical and mental activities based around the TV show, 'It's a Knockout'. click here

Local apprentice, Thomas Davidson has won a national award from the organisation that represents repairs and maintenance divisions of housing associations and registered social landlords in the UK. 18 year old Thomas has received a 'First Year Best Apprentice' prize awarded by the Directworks Forum. click here
TEENAGERS TALK SPORT IN TANZANIA

Local teenagers from Northfield are seeking sponsorship for the journey of a lifetime, to Africa, where they have been invited to talk to students at the Tanga International School in Tanzania, about sport in the UK. Lauren Hunter, aged 14 and Shannon Williamson, aged 14 are part of the Shenley, Woodlands Youth Group. Jenni Rowley, aged 16 is part of the Square club, in Shenley. click here
CHILDREN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Teenagers in Northfield are helping to change their community for the better by taking part in an ongoing campaign to clean up their area. The children who have formed a Youth Forum on the Hole Farm Estate, began the clean up operation by giving up a day of their Easter holidays to paint a fence in St. Josephs Avenue. click here
RESIDENTS OF SHENLEY GET AWARD WINNING HOMES

Future tenants of new homes that are being built as part of a £6.3 million social housing project in South Birmingham, will be living in eco friendly homes, powered by solar technology, which will cut their fuel bills. The regeneration project will include homes built into the hillside in Shenley Green, and will incorporate many sustainable features, such as solar panels, to reduce energy needs which will lessen CO2 emissions and benefit the environment! click here
