NEW SECURITY MEASURES HELP THE VULNERABLE FIGHT CRIME
August 9 2004
South Birmingham residents will sleep safer in their beds following the launch of several new security initiatives, which will be introduced at a one day conference on September 25 this year.
Products which have played an important role in crime reduction throughout the UK, include Smart Water, which the manufacturer says has led to an 88% reduction in burglary in one City. This and other products will be introduced at the conference, organised by Bournville Village Trust, in partnership with West Midlands Police.
Speakers at the event include the Operational Commander for West Midlands Police, and representatives from West Midlands Fire Brigade and Bournville Village Trust. The Conference will also provide an opportunity for residents to hear about current legislation regarding anti social behaviour orders and police powers of enforcement.
Gloria Gain, at Bournville Village Trust said: "Crime and security is a major concern for many people, particularly the old and more vulnerable. The event will be a forum to debate issues on community safety and will provide information on useful security measures. Bournville Village Trust recently won a successful anti social behaviour order against a tenant, which isn’t just a problem for the police, residents too can play a major part in learning to deal with this problem, which will be explained during the day."
PC Terry Lewis at Bournville Lane Police Station said: "Residents have an important part to play in helping to control their area. By improving household security and taking a few simple steps, the risk of becoming a victim can be reduced."
Residents of Bournville Village Trust should contact Gloria Gain on 0121 415 6485 if they wish to attend the conference, which costs £6 per person or £10 for two people.
