Bournville Village Trust Tenants Direct Film

November 11 2007

Tenants of a local housing association in South Birmingham have directed and produced a DVD for new tenants to make them feel more at home.

Professional actors and film makers from Nelson Training played the characters in the film, which will be given to all new Bournville Village Trust tenants.

'Being a Valued Tenant' is a humerous drama about a fraught relationship between 'Chantelle' an anti social behaviour new tenant and 'Arthur' long time tenant and guiding light of the local tenants association. The film follows Chantelle's journey as she settles into her new home and it provides information about how to be a responsible tenant. The DVD covers important matters such as rent arrears, dealing with debt, anti social behaviour and taking care of your home.

Bournville Village Trust which funded the making of the film, discussed the contents with existing tenants who also provided direction for the actors. Zoey Stanton, the Trust's Tenant Participation Officer said: "The tenants have been excellent - they have developed a one off humerous drama which highlights important issues and problems. We hope that by watching the film new tenants will understand the importance of being a good tenant and if they ever experience any of the issues contained in the film they will know what steps to take to resolve them."

The initiative is part of the Bournville Village Trust ethos to promote sustainable communities.
