Lightmoor - A Second Bournville

A century after George Cadbury created the world-famous Bournville Village, Telford will be the home of the Trust's millennium project. BVT plans to develop an urban village at Lightmoor in Telford, with English Partnerships acting as a joint venture partner.

The urban village concept was inspired by HRH The Prince of Wales. He wanted to rejuvenate the sense of community by paying more attention to certain key principles including: development on a human scale; mixed-use development; quality of design and social and economic sustainability.

BVT has begun building around 800 homes, with social, leisure and sports facilities, as well as commercial and employment opportunities, all of which will foster a vibrant community, rather than just another housing estate.

A major step forward was reached when the local authority approved the planned proposals. A start on site at the northern end of the village was made in the summer of 2005.
