See New Developments: Lightmoor - A Second Bournville
In 1991, following protracted negotiations with Telford Development Corporation, the Trust becomes owner and landlord of 350 properties in Telford, Shropshire; today it has over 500 properties in Shropshire, with more in the pipeline.
The Trust has begun work to create a second Bournville, taking all the important principles from Bournville Mark 1 and building them into the second “Bournville” which is situated in the Lightmoor area of Telford.
A century after George Cadbury created the world-famous Bournville Village, Telford is the home of the Trust's millennium project. BVT is building an urban village at Lightmoor in Telford, with English Partnerships acting as a joint venture partner.
The urban village concept was inspired by HRH The Prince of Wales. He wanted to rejuvenate the sense of community by paying more attention to certain key principles including: development on a human scale; mixed-use development; quality of design and social and economic sustainability.
BVT plans to build around 800 homes with social, leisure & sports facilities, commercial & employment facilities which will make a real community, rather than just another housing estate.
Development is expected to take place over a 10 year period.
