Bournville Village Trust

Lion rampant emblem.Teacher InformationLion rampant emblem.

Around 7000 school children visit Selly Manor each year, most of them study the Tudors, but some look at old houses and furniture, and medieval life. For those studying local history we can focus on the interesting village of Bournville.

Below are details of a typical visit to Selly Manor. However we can arrange tailor made visits to suit the topic that is being studied, or the age of the children. Please contact us on 0121 472 0199 by by emailing sellymanor@bvt.org.uk to discuss this further.

We have other resources available including a timber frame, mystery objects and our Tudor garden. If you wish to use a particular resource then please mention this when booking.

Cost
£3.00 per child - with one of our Education Team
£2.00 per child - guide them yourselves
Free for teachers and helpers. A minimum of 1 accompanying adult per 10 children visiting.

Please pay on the day by cash or cheque (payable to BVT). We can only invoice by prior arrangement. Booked groups that do not turn up will be invoiced for the full amount.

Numbers
Our Education Team can deal with 2 classes in one visit by rotating the various sessions. We can accomodate 3 classes, but please be aware that this may limit the experience, particularly the time spent on activities. This arrangement will only work with assistance from teachers and helpers.

Gift Shop
Selly Manor is a charity and we would be very grateful if you could allow your children to use our shop, which helps to support the work of the museum. Most items are £1 or less. We would suggest that £2 per child is a suitable amount. Gift bags (to any value) can be prepared in advance, this should be arranged prior to your visit.

Lunch Facilities
If the weather is good then school groups can take advantage of the beautiful garden at Selly Manor. If not, school groups can use Minworth Greaves, a large medieval hall. There are only two toilets at the museum
