Bournville Village Trust

An Introduction

There is much more to Bournville than just chocolate!

There is plenty to see in the interesting village of Bournville, as well as Selly Manor and Minworth Greaves with its beautiful Tudor garden. Selly Manor and Minworth Greaves are two of the oldest timber-framed buildings in Birmingham. Both are beautiful examples and are set in a picturesque re-created period garden. It is also possible to get married in Minworth Greaves.

Bournville was built by the chocolate manufacturer George Cadbury, next to his factory. The village is full of history and is home to some fascinating buildings. Why not take a look at our Bournville Trail.

A trip to Selly Manor is fascinating in itself, but for students of Tudor and Medieval history, it can be invaluable to maximise use of the site with activities before, and follow up work after, a visit. You may like to use these resources as an introduction before a visit, and as a reminder after a visit. It will hopefully tempt you to visit us!

We have various ideas and information for you in Teacher Information and Ideas and Activities.

We have two timber framed buildings on site. The medieval hall, Minworth Greaves is on one floor with a small entrance step. Selly Manor is on three storeys, but is only accessible by stairs, one entrance has one step, the other has four steps. We have two toilets, which are suitable for wheelchair users. We also have a small souvenir shop.

We can provide guided tours & talks (need to be pre-booked) portable notes, magnifying glasses, and we have a photo album tour of Selly Manor. All dogs are welcome in the garden, and guide dogs may enter the houses. We are happy to help in any way, please just ask us.
