The History of Minworth Greaves

Photo of Minworth Greaves before it was moved showing just the main timbers

Minworth Greaves dates to c. 1250 and was originally built north of Birmingham between Curdworth and Minworth, although the exact location is unknown.

Little is known of the history of the house, but by 1880 what had been a fine medieval house was converted into two homes, but were in bad condition. It was considered beyond repair and everything that could be was stripped out and sold. All that remained were the main timbers (as in the photograph).

In 1911 George and Laurence Cadbury purchased the house and they had it dismantled, and it was rebuilt on the present Minworth Greaves in Bournville during the 1930's.
