We
offer a range of illustrated talks and guided tours at Selly manor, looking
at the background to the houses and the local history.
Tour 1:
Selly Manor
Discover the history of this fascinating timber manor house. Find out
what life was really like, and marvel at the beautiful furniture. (Lasts
about 3/4 hour)
Tour 2:
Bournville
Explore the unique garden village built by George Cadbury, the chocolate
manufacturer. Find out about the history and see some of the beautiful
architecture. Either take a walking tour of the old village, or a trip
in your coach allows a glimpse further afield. (Lasts about 1 hour)
Talk 1:
The history and development of Selly Manor & Minworth Greaves
This has particular emphasis on the Cadbury connection and the reconstruction
of these houses in Bournville. The talk will look into their context in
the village, with a look at some of the older history of Bournville.
Talk 2:
Timber Famed Buildings
This focuses on how these buildings were constructed from the initial
stages of felling trees to the completed houses. The speaker draws on
his expereience in aiding the building of a modern day timber framed houses
and shows some of the tools that would have been used.
Talk 3:
The History of Bournville
Take a look at the village built by George Cadbury. The talk takes you
on an imaginary stroll through Bournville past and present, taking in
the glorious architecture and variety of buildings, and sees the changes
over the past century.
All talks
last about 1 hour.
Summer
Evening at Selly Manor
Have exclusive use of the site, with an illustrated talk, a guided tour
and a cup of tea. The site would be your from about 6.30-9.30pm.
