Choose Your Home

In Telford, All of our homes are let through our choice based letting scheme; Choose Your Home scheme and that is exactly what you will get to do.

Choose Your Home is a free, easy to access service. Choose Your Home shows customers on a weekly basis the homes that are available for rent. It allows customers who have joined the scheme to choose up to three homes per week that they would like to be considered for.

This doesn’t mean that if you see a home you will automatically get it, but it will mean that you get to choose homes you would like to be considered for, rather than us choose one for you.

Here how it works:
There are three ways that you can join Choose Your Home:

  • By logging onto www.chooseyourhome.org.uk, clicking on the ‘join’ button and following the instructions.
  • By contacting your Housing Officer either by telephone or calling into your Area Office or
  • By contacting the Choose Your Home team by telephone on 01952 217101 between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

Joining Choose Your Home will only take a few minutes, but you will need to know the following details:

  • Your contact details
  • Your National Insurance Number
  • The name and telephone number of anyone supporting your move such as a Housing Officer, a Support Worker or a Homeless Officer

Instead of being awarded points, you will be placed into one of three bands:

  • Urgent Band – Your need to move is urgent and you can no longer continue to live in your current home.
  • Needing Band – Your current home is not suitable for your needs, but you are able to stay there while you choose another.
  • Wanting Band – Your current home meets your needs, but you would like to move.

Once you have joined you will receive a letter confirming your details and a Step-by-Step Guide.

Each Wednesday we will advertise our homes which are available to let and ask you to let us know by 12 noon the following Tuesday, if you would like to be considered (the advert may say that only people from a certain band can apply).

If you don’t get offered the home, you can use the feedback section of the website to see how many other customers chose that home, the banding and registration date of the person who was offered the home and also your exact position on the list - this will give you an idea of how close you came to being offered the home and also how long it will take for you to move.
