Green Issues

community composting

The Lightmoor team are working with Telford and Wrekin Council to reduce our residents carbon footprint. We will use Lightmoor as a pilot scheme for several "green" initiatives suggested to us by the Councils Environmental Project team. Their suggestions include:

  • Community composting at Lightmoor of garden and kitchen waste.
  • Setting up a tool library for use by all residents at Lightmoor, this will need careful research as we know that some schemes have had issues with insurance. Unfortunately in today's climate we have to be sure that we are indemnified against risk to the public and any accidents that may occur. We shall be taking advice on this aspect. It would be a shame if we felt that we could not support a tool lending scheme in some format.

Telford and Wrekin Council have a climate change webpage which links into their Local Strategy, it can be accessed through www.telford.gov.uk/climatechange

Do you know how to calculate your carbon footprint either as an individual or as part of a group? If you want to find out visit http://actonco2.direct.gov.uk/index.html

The site contains a tool kit to help you make this calculation.

Plastic Bottle Banks

The council has provided a number of plastic bottle banks across the borough for all residents to recycle plastic bottles.

Only plastic bottles can be placed in these banks. At present the council do not have recycling facilities for other types of plastic.

When using the banks, please follow this simple 1,2,3 so that the banks contain as many bottles as possible, This means that the lorries make fewer trips and helps to reduce Telford's impact on the environment.
