Library and archives

The Roger Cadbury Library and archives feature a fantastic range of books, documents, reports and photographs about the history of Bournville and Bournville Village Trust.

Kept in our Birmingham office at 350 Bournville Lane, B30 1QY, the library and archives can be visited by appointment during office hours (Mon-Fri 8.30am-4.30pm)

The library is named after former Bournville Village Trust Trustee and Chair Roger Cadbury and has information on:

  • Quakers.
  • Cadbury factory and Cadbury family.
  • Town planning and garden cities.
  • Housing.
  • Urban and social history.
  • Bournville Works Magazines.
  • Bournville Village Trust.

Highlights of our collection include:

  • A full collection of Bournville Works Magazines (BWMs) from 1902-1968 with a wealth of information on daily life in and around Bournville. We also hold special editions of magazines focusing on royal visits, life of George and Dame Elizabeth Cadbury, and Bournville during WW1 and WW2.
  • Detailed compilation of biographies and associated archives on members of the Cadbury family by John Crosfield.
  • Range of archive photographs of the buildings, spaces and people of Bournville. The collection is fully digitised.
  • Range of reports, leaflets and booklets by Bournville Village Trust and Cadbury Brothers on life and work in Bournville.
  • Archives about the life and work of specific Cadbury family members including Laurence Cadbury, George Cadbury Junior, Mary Tylor and Dame Elizabeth Cadbury.

We also support research that promotes the library, archives and story of Bournville and welcome donations about the Bournville Estate, its history and development.
