We manage 3,400 homes for social rent and provide homes for older people, care leavers and shared ownership.

How do I apply for a rented home?

We advertise all available homes for social rent on BVT Homes, our online portal. We have a very high number of applicants already registered on the portal and a very small number of homes available each year.  We have therefore closed the portal to new applicants for the foreseeable future and we are no longer accepting new registrations.

What can I expect when I rent a home with Bournville Village Trust?

Your new home will be safe, clean and in a good condition. It will have proper heating, lighting and ventilation. The structure will also be strong and free of leaks, plumbing problems or any dangers.

Swapping homes (mutual exchange)

If you’d like to swap your home and tenancy, also known as a mutual exchange, you can sign up to HomeSwapper at www.homeswapper.co.uk You must have lived in your home for 12 months or have a secure or assured tenancy with a registered social landlord or local authority, and have no rent arrears.

When you’ve found a swap, please call us on 0300 333 6540 or email enquiries@bvt.org.uk for an application form.

We’ll carry out checks before you complete a swap, which can take up to 42 days. It’s really important you’re happy with the home and tenancy terms and the condition before filling in an application as you take on responsibility for both.

Demand for homes

Due to high demand, we have closed our online portal – BVT Homes – to new applicants for the foreseeable future and we are no longer accepting new registrations.  If you’re in urgent need of a home, please contact your local authority’s housing options team. If you’ve already successfully registered and been approved, you can continue to bid on available properties on BVT Homes. We’ll update this page once we’re accepting new applicants again.

Already a Bournville Village Trust tenant? We have a limited number of properties on BVT Homes for tenants who want to transfer to another one of our homes.

Bournville Works Housing Society (BWHS)

Bournville Works Housing Society (BWHS) was founded to provide quality homes for people most in need. Historically, they were rented to people employed by Cadbury’s/ Mondelez in Bournville.

Today, 313 high-quality rented homes are still rented to families in need of social housing. BWHS also offers additional preference to people who:

• Receive a Cadbury or Mondelez pension.
• Employed by Mondelez and have been in continuous employment with them for three years OR an existing tenant’s son or daughter whose parent/s have been a named tenant and BWHS member for no less than three years.

BWHS is part of Bournville Village Trust and BWHS residents can use all the services here on our website, including reporting repairs or anti-social behaviour, making payments or making a complaint.

Market rent

As well as providing homes for social rent, we let a small number of properties for market rent in Birmingham and Telford. Unlike social rented homes, where rent is capped, market rent is charged at the maximum rate for the property’s condition and location.

Market rent amounts to just 1.5% of all the homes we manage and as a not-for-profit organisation, all profit from them goes back into improving our social rented homes.

Care leavers supported housing

We have supported housing specifically for care leavers. The service provides safe, stable and supportive accommodation for young people aged 16-21 who are moving from care to independent living. You can read about the standard of service you can expect from our care leavers service below.
