Our websites

Rented homes

We manage 3,400 homes for social rent and provide homes for older people, care leavers and shared ownership.

How do I apply for a rented home?

We advertise all available homes for social rent on BVT Homes, our online portal. To apply for a home, you must register on BVT Homes at https://bvt.housingjigsaw.co.uk To understand more about applying to rent a home, please read our renting a home FAQs.

You can also read about the standard of home you can expect from us by downloading our new home service standard and the standard of lettings service you can expect in our letting homes service standard.

Transferring or swapping homes

You can apply to transfer to another BVT home using our online portal BVT Homes at https://bvt.housingjigsaw.co.uk

If you’d like to swap your home and tenancy, you can sign up to HomeSwapper at www.homeswapper.co.uk You must have lived in your home for 12 months, have a fixed term, secure or assured tenancy with a registered social landlord or local authority and no rent arrears. When you’ve found a swap, please call us on 0300 333 6540 or email enquiries@bvt.org.uk for an application form.

We’ll carry out checks before you complete a swap, which can take up to 42 days. It’s really important you’re happy with the home and tenancy terms and the condition before filling in an application as you take on responsibility for both.

Demand for homes

Due to high demand, all new registrations for our online portal BVT Homes are currently paused to process registrations awaiting approval. If you’re in urgent need of a home, please contact your local authority’s housing options team. If you’ve already successfully registered and been approved, you can continue to bid on available properties on BVT Homes. We’ll update this page once we’re accepting new applicants again.
Already a BVT tenant? We have a limited number of properties on BVT Homes for tenants who want to transfer to another one of our homes.

Bournville Works Housing Society (BWHS)

Bournville Works Housing Society (BWHS), part of BVT, also has homes for those in housing need. There is further information on our Bournville Works Housing Society (BWHS) page.

Market rent

As well as providing homes for social rent, we let a small number of properties for market rent in Birmingham and Telford. Unlike social rented homes, where rent is capped, market rent is charged at the maximum rate for the property’s condition and location.

Market rent amounts to just 1.5% of all the homes we manage and as a not-for-profit organisation, all profit from them goes back into improving our social rented homes.
