FAQs money matters

Here are answers to some money matters questions we have been asked. If you have a question that hasn’t been answered, please email us at enquiries@bvt.org.uk or call us on 0300 333 6540.

1: I’m behind on my rent, what should I do?

Please don’t struggle in silence, speak to us. We can work with you to try and find an affordable payment plan and our Money Matters team may be able to help you find extra financial help like benefits or grants.

2: Can you help me buy food?

If you’re struggling to put food on your table, we can refer you to your local foodbank who can provide you with an emergency food parcel based on the size of your household. We can also speak with you about other food help, which may include referrals to food pantries or charities. Please call us on 0300 333 6540 if you’re struggling to buy food and we can discuss the options available.

3: I’m in debt, can you help me?

Our Money Matters team can go through your income and expenditure with you, helping you create a budget and look at ways you could save money. However, we’re not regulated debt workers so we will give you a variety of options to find the specialist support you need from organisations like StepChange and CAB.

4: I can’t afford to buy an essential household item, can you help?

If you cannot replace an essential household item, we can point you in the direction of charities who may be able to help. Different charities may be able to help with specific items, dependant on your household circumstances. A great tool for identifying these is https://grants-search.turn2us.org.uk/ and https://www.moneyhelper.org.uk/en
