BVT’s services for older residents, namely our Shopping Trips and IT classes, have been commended in Placeshapers ‘Localism that Works’ report.
Placeshapers is a group of 70 national housing associations working together with local partners to achieve real improvements in communities.Placeshapers recognise that good housing is the bedrock to a decent life and that housing providers have a pivotal role to play in helping residents, local government and other agencies work together to improve employment, health & wellbeing, educational attainment and reduce crime.
The high-profile launch in December showcased a wide range of work being undertaken with local residents.BVTs services for older people (see p15 of the report) aim to enhance health and wellbeing in an ageing population. The services, requested by residents to cover identified needs are delivered in partnership between BVT and other local organisations / volunteers.
Our shopping trips (with Shencare) offer twice weekly trips to local supermarkets and shopping centres and provide an opportunity for a cup of coffee and a chat with other residents.
Our IT classes help older people gain confidence in using a computer, enabling them to take advantage of offers available on line and to keep in touch with relatives.
