BVT on track to fit new windows and doors to nearly 700 homes

Bournville Village Trust (BVT) is on track to fit new windows and doors to nearly 700 homes, as part of its plans to make sure its properties are well-maintained, warmer and more energy efficient.

The charitable trust, which manages 3,400 socially rented homes in central and South Birmingham and Telford, will spend £7.3m this year on improving homes.

This will include fitting new UPVC and timber windows to 210 homes and new front and back doors to 470 homes.

Diana Cooke, a BVT resident who has had the windows and doors of her bungalow replaced this year, said: “It’s warmer, especially in my bathroom which is the smallest room but was the coldest. I also feel safer, and it’s given me peace of mind. I would say to others, get the work done – you won’t regret it!”

Daniel Price, Surveyor Project Manager at BVT, who is leading the window and door replacement work, said: “It’s great to hear comments like Diana’s and understand the impact that this improvement work is having on our customers’ day-to-day lives.

“We want to make sure all our homes are well maintained, warmer and more energy efficient, and hundreds of BVT homes in Birmingham and Telford have already benefitted from improvement work over the last year.”

As well as fitting new windows and doors to 680 homes this year, BVT will also fit 260 new kitchens, 180 new boilers, 124 new bathrooms and 235 fire doors.

BVT’s window and door replacement programme is continuing to focus on replacing single glazed windows to homes with no double glazing. And new front doors are also being fitted to homes where double glazed windows have been replaced in the past.

To make sure doors and windows remain in as good a condition as possible until they are replaced, BVT is carrying out an external home maintenance programme (which includes painting) and doing repairs where needed (including draught proofing).
