Money raised from a series of charity events in Lawley village has been presented to the parents of Telford teenager Georgia Williams.
Over £1,800 was collected through a charity fun run, quiz night and hog roast after families from Lawley pledged to raise funds for the Georgia Williams Trust.
The Trust was set up in memory of Georgia who sadly, and unexpectedly, lost her life at the end of May 2013.
It helps young people take part in adventurous activities and contribute to their community, and the Trust also works with schools and sport associations.
A cheque was presented to Steve and Lynnette Williams by Fleur Hemming, from Bournville Village Trust, Jayne Greenaway, Chair of the Lawley and Overdale Parish Council, and Richard Handley, from Lawley Running Club.
The Trust, Parish Council and Running Club all helped to co-ordinate and engage families in the fundraising events, which took place throughout 2018.
Lynnette Williams, said: “Georgia was an extremely kind and generous person, a leader and humanitarian. The money raised for Georgia’s Trust is used in many ways and for as many over 11’s who want to achieve their goals. Many thanks to Bournville Village Trust, Lawley and Overdale Parish Council and Lawley Running Club for such a fantastic amount raised.”
Fleur Hemming, Community Development and Involvement Manager at Bournville Village Trust, said: “The money raised for the Georgia Williams Trust was a real community effort. We hope it will help to make a difference to young people in the area by providing financial aid, specialist equipment or courses that help them achieve their dreams.”
Richard Handley, Lawley Running Club Event Director, said: “We are passionate about helping to organise the Lawley fun run and know the money raised will be used to support the fantastic work the Georgia Williams Trust carries out. A big thank you to the local businesses that continually support the fun run, without their support none of this would be possible.”
Jayne Greenaway, Chair of the Lawley and Overdale Parish Council, said: “Lawley and Overdale Parish Council are delighted to yet again be involved with Bournville Village Trust and Lawley Running Club raising much needed funds for local worthy causes.”
Bournville Village Trust was founded by chocolate maker and philanthropist George Cadbury in 1900 and is a housing association and registered charity. It provides services to 8,000 homes of mixed tenure and 25,000 people in Birmingham and Telford.
