Around 80 trees are being planted across Birmingham and Telford neighbourhoods this winter as part of work to make sure our estates are well-managed, green and sustainable.
The trees, being planted by our dedicated in-house Grounds Maintenance team, range from five species of Oak, four of Cherry, some Beech, Birch and Chestnut.
We will also be planting some more unusual trees such as Acacia, Foxglove, Mulberry and a range of fruit trees plus an Elm resistant to Dutch Elm Disease.
The trees are being planted to replace those that have had to be removed because they were dead, dying or dangerous in the last year.
Trees will be planted at Rowheath Pavilion/Park, Bournville Green, Greyfox Park, Weoley Hill Parks and a number of other open spaces.
Neil Towle, Head of Grounds Maintenance Services at Bournville Village Trust, said: “It’s a pleasure to be able to support our Estates team with this year’s tree planting, and continuing Bournville Village Trust’s commitment to keeping neighbourhoods green, safe and well maintained.
“One of the ways we do this is making sure we replace any trees that have had to be removed or have been lost due to natural causes, such as storm damage.
“We primarily aim to plant native tree species, suitable for the areas they are planted in, but also include a small selection of specimen varieties to support species diversity, climate and sustainability and amenity value.”
Our Grounds Maintenance team have also been busy this winter delivering day to day services in Bournville Village Trust residential blocks and schemes, as well as within our parks and open spaces.
Services for our winter (November-February) grounds maintenance programme focus on maintaining hard services, winter landscaping, leaf clearance, estate-related inspections (such as play areas and watercourses) and gritting.
To understand more about the services you can expect as part of our ground’s maintenance winter programme, please go to our residential blocks and schemes page or estates and stewardship page.
