We’ve seen a recent increase in fly-tipping in some of our south-Birmingham neighbourhoods and we need your help to tackle it.
While most residents dispose of waste responsibly, we’re reminding everyone to help us keep neighbourhoods clean and green by:
- Not leaving unwanted items on the estate or in communal areas of residential blocks and schemes with the expectation they’ll be collected by us or the Council.
- Breaking down cardboard boxes so they can be placed in household waste collections, where appropriate.
- Arranging collection of bulky items through a licensed waste carrier if Birmingham City Council’s service is unavailable.
- Taking larger items to a Household Waste Recycling Centre where possible. Go to www.birmingham.gov.uk/hrc for locations and bookings.
Know someone who is fly-tipping? Report it!
- If you see anyone dumping rubbish or abandoning items on the estate or in communal areas, report it as soon as possible.
- Details like descriptions of individuals, vehicle registrations, dates, times, locations or photographs (where it is safe to take them) can help us identify those responsible and act.
Whilst Birmingham City Council (BCC) hold powers to prosecute fly-tippers, we can still take action against fly-tipping on our land. This can include tenancy enforcement if the person is a BVT tenant, or other legal action where appropriate.
Please share evidence with us and BCC where you witness fly-tipping on BVT land. You can also report fly-tipping on BCC land directly to the Council. We’re can’t remove waste from land managed/owned by others.
- Report fly-tipping to us by calling 0300 333 6540, emailing enquiries@bvt.org.uk or filling in our short online form.
- Report to Birmingham City Council at www.birmingham.gov.uk/flytipping or through www.fixmystreet.com
Fly-tipping creates an unpleasant environment, can attract vermin and pose health and safety risks.
Our Estates and Stewardship team can, and do, arrange for illegally dumped waste to be removed, but it’s not a free service and clearing and disposing of it comes at a big cost which ultimately has to be passed on through the charges you pay.
Please help us tackle fly-tipping by disposing of waste responsibly and reporting fly-tippers.
