Over 2,200 people and families visited the first ever Bournville Village Farmers Market in October.
The Market, which aims to help boost the local economy and support local, independent food producers, was launched on Saturday 3rd October 2026.
Many traders at the Market, organised by Rachael Giaramita with support from Bournville Village Trust, sold out, and some local independent shops also reported an uptake in profits.
Julia Robinson, Bournville Placeshaping Manager at Bournville Village Trust, said: “It was fantastic to see so many people enjoying the opportunity to buy from local independent traders selling a variety of foods and handmade goods.
“The atmosphere was joyous and we’ve had some great feedback from visitors and traders alike. We’ll be listening to all the feedback we heard, including suggestions for how we can improve, ready for the next Market in November.”
A Inpang, General Manager at Kafenion, said: “The Market brought a lot of people into the area, and we were pleased to see an increase in our income compared with a usual day.
“We really appreciate the positive impact the event had on the local area and businesses. Kafenion is happy to support future events, and we hope the feedback we shared helps make them even better.”
The next Bournville Village Farmers Market will take place on Saturday 7th November 2026 with another planned for Saturday 5th December 2026.
If the market is successful, it’s hoped it will become a permanent addition to Bournville Village’s visitor offer.
The market runs from 10am-3pm, with a road closure in place on Sycamore Road up until 6pm to protect the safety of visitors and stall holders and facilitate accessibility. The shopper’s car park remains open, but visitors are encouraged to use public transport or walk to the Market where possible.
In addition to the Farmers Market, over 1,800 visitors also came to Bournville as part of the city’s largest arts trail – Birmingham Open Studios.
Bournville hosted artists in the Rest House, in the centre of Bournville Green, which was built to celebrate the Silver Wedding Anniversary of George and Elizabeth Cadbury.
The Bournville Village Farmers Market and participation in community, heritage and other events, like Birmingham Open Studios the annual Christmas Festival, Pride Picnic and Artisan Market, is all part of Bournville Village Trust’s work to explore what Bournville Village’s visitor and resident offer could be in the future.
Bournville Village Trust is one of the Midlands’ longest-serving independent charitable trusts.
It works within more than a dozen diverse communities in south and central Birmingham and Telford and aims to create and sustain communities where people can thrive.
It was founded by social reformer and chocolate maker George Cadbury in 1900 and provides services to over 9,000 households and 25,000 people.
