Lower Shenley receives the accolade of “Secured by Design” to mark its innovative stance on crime prevention and building a safer place to live and work
Bournville Village Trust’s innovative development at Lower Shenley has been awarded the accolade of the Association of Chief Police Officers’ (ACPO) ‘Secured by Design’ certificate. The certificate, first established in 1989, sets out to showcase housing developments that have a particular focus on security and crime prevention.
The criteria for achieving the ‘Secured by Design’ certificate takes into account many design features that help to create a safer neighbourhood for all. Communal areas, fence and hedge heights as well as secure parking bays, pedestrian ‘Homezones’ and areas for children and young people to play and communicate, have made a significant impact on how people live at Lower Shenley.
The certificate was awarded to Bournville Village Trust after the completion of a successful evaluation of the development by the local Police Secure By Design Officer. Linked to the Government’s planning objectives to make homes and communities a safer place for people to live and work, the certificate acknowledges how the design and layout of Lower Shenley has helped to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.
