Planning approval granted to repurpose the Beeches

A planning application to repurpose the former Beeches hotel and conference centre in Bournville has been approved by the City Council.

The scheme will provide general needs housing, like many social housing tenancies in Bournville, for families trapped in temporary accommodation due to the lack of affordable housing in Birmingham.

The building will be remodelled by Spring Housing Association to create 21 individual two, three and four-bedroom apartments and each apartment will have its own facilities including a kitchen, bathroom, living space and bedrooms.

The car park will be kept, providing sufficient parking and the gardens will also be retained.

Arthur Tsang, Director of Communities at BVT, said: “We are committed to working with Spring Housing Association, immediate neighbours of the Beeches and the wider community on this scheme and have formed a ‘Friends of The Beeches’ group, which met for the first time in January.

“The group is continuing to meet regularly to provide an opportunity to hear details as the project develops, continue to ask questions or raise queries and to get involved in working with us and Spring Housing Association to ensure the successful integration of families within the Bournville community.”
