Plans for 200 new homes in Telford village get green light

A total of 200 new family homes are to be built in Telford after plans were given the green light by the Council.

Bournville Village Trust will develop the homes in partnership with the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) on land north of Lightmoor Village, following approval from Telford and Wrekin Council.

The work will form the fifth phase of Lightmoor Village, which has benefitted from significant and on-going investment to support delivery by the HCA.

Two, three and four-bedroom houses will be built for sale by developer Keepmoat on the 20-acre site of which 50 will be affordable homes for rent managed by Bournville Village Trust.

Open space will play an important part in the development too, with plans to create a beautiful Village Green featuring native wildflowers and a children’s play area.

Connections will also be made to Lightmoor Village’s existing cycle and footpath network to encourage residents to enjoy an active lifestyle and the outdoors.

Peter Roach, Chief Executive of Bournville Village Trust, said: “We are pleased that the Council has given permission to develop this area of land and in turn create 200 new homes for people in Telford.

“We believe these homes will have a positive impact not just on local housing supply but on the community as a whole by injecting money into local facilities and services.

“The Village has benefitted hugely from investment from the HCA and we are pleased to be working with them and Keepmoat on this exciting new phase for Lightmoor.”

Maxine Conway, Regional Sales Director for Keepmoat Homes, said “We are delighted to be involved in building the new phase of homes at Lightmoor Village.

“With the addition of green open spaces and play area, these new homes will add further benefit to the already thriving community in Telford.”

Work is expected to start on the development in the New Year, with the first homes set for completion in the summer.

Inspired by chocolate-maker George Cadbury’s Bournville garden village, Lightmoor is a joint venture between Bournville Village Trust and the HCA.

The Village is currently home to over 1,000 people and includes a community centre, primary school and nursery, an extra care housing scheme and two parks. It will feature 1,000 homes once complete.
