Summer events in your community

There are a number of summer events being organised by BVT and our partners in Birmingham and Telford.

Here are details of activities and events you may like to try this summer.

This summer at Selly Manor Museum, managed by Bournville Village Trust, you’ll be able to see Shakespeare’s First Folio of his works.  There’s also an opportunity to join author and expert Michael Harrison for a talk on George Cadbury’s ‘model village’ of Bournville as he discusses the development period between Wars.

For further information about these events and other activities taking place at the Museum, please go to https://sellymanormuseum.org.uk/events

For runners, the Lawley 5K run is returning on Saturday 10th September and as places are limited, it’s best to book as soon as possible. Further details available are available at www.facebook.com/Lawley5KFunRun

Both Lawley and Lightmoor Villages will be organising free activities for children over the summer holidays. To keep up-to-date, follow the Lawley and Lightmoor Facebook pages or visit the Village’s websites.

In addition here are five things you can try this summer for free:

  • Try cricket and other sports. Children aged five to 12 can enjoy free sport sessions every Wednesday from 27th July-17th August 10am-12pm at Woodlands Park, Lightmoor Village. No experience required for these fun, welcoming and inclusive sessions. Contact sacha.lee@shropshirecricketboard.co.uk for details.
  • Visit Selly Manor Museum. All BVT residents get free entry to the museum (excluding events). All you need to do is present proof of address to get your own pass. www.sellymanormuseum.org.uk
  • Discover Bantock House Museum and Park. Set within 43 acres of parkland and surrounded by delightful formal gardens, Bantock House is just outside Wolverhampton city centre and is free to enter.
  • Enjoy a picnic in the park. Pick a sunny day and head to one of the scores of parks in Birmingham or Telford. Why not take a picnic too? You can find affordable and healthy picnic recipes at www.nhs.uk/healthier-families/recipes/bbq-and-picnic/
  • Visit Granville Country Park. Just two miles from Telford town centre, this country park is vast and full of wildlife. Entry is free. www.shropshirewildlifetrust.org.uk/nature-reserves/granvillecountry-park
