The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is writing to some Bournville Village Trust customers who get benefits to let them know they need to claim Universal Credit instead.
This letter is called a ‘migration notice’. You don’t need to do anything until you get this letter but, when you do, it’s important to act.
Here are three things you should do when you receive your letter.
- Check the date you need to claim Universal Credit by. You won’t be moved to Universal Credit automatically.
- If you need help with a Universal Credit application or you’re concerned about managing your income until your first Universal Credit payment, follow the instructions in the letter.
- Look out for the letter and don’t ignore it. If you don’t claim Universal Credit by the date in your letter, you risk your benefits being stopped.
If you’ve followed the steps above and are struggling to manage a Universal Credit claim, please contact our Money Matters team. You can do this by filling in a short form on our Money Matters page.
And don’t forget, if you’re worried about money or have concerns about managing your rent account with us, we can help. Call our Income team today on 0300 333 6540 or email enquiries@bvt.org.uk
