Bournville Village Trust is responsible for the management of the areas within the Bournville estate and to support this, a Design Guide was introduced in 1985.
It has been updated over time with the aim of protecting the characteristics of the areas in the Bournville estate.
The Design Guide includes;
- Guidance on property/garden alterations and extensions, building materials and the enforcement of breaches to the Design Guide.
- How we work with you and other partners to ensure estates are well maintained to an agreed standard.
As part of our aim to create distinctive and environmentally-sustainable places, we wanted to create a new Design Guide fit for the 21st century and beyond.
In 2020, we carried out a full review of our Design Guide. We listened to a range of diverse opinions during this consultation and we brought the proposed guide back out to a final stage consultation to ensure that we had heard what you had said.
We worked with our design partners at BDP to produce a guide that is representative of the views we heard but also meets the legal requirements of the 1967 Leasehold Reform Act, which bestowed us with the responsibility to manage the appearance and amenity of the Bournville estate.
In July 2021 we launched a revised and refreshed Guide which you can read by going to our Read New Bournville Estate Design Guide page.
Thank you to everyone who supported the review and we look forward to working with you.
