Recognised internationally as an exceptional example of an early garden suburb, Bournville Village pioneered the concept of open space within modern town planning. With its agricultural estates, shops and commercial buildings and museum, it houses around 25,000 people in more than 1,000 acres – 10% of which is parkland and open space. In addition the Bournville Village Trust is also developing other communities in Shropshire and are looking to actively partner with other property development companies with regard to long term Stewardship and maintenance. For almost a century, Bournville PropertyCare Services has overseen all aspects of property management and maintenance for this unique community – and your expertise will help to take us to the next level
Deploying a substantial annual maintenance budget, you will help develop and then implement our 30-year planned maintenance programme and implement effective strategies and policies to drive continuous improvement. At all times, you will ensure that we achieve best practice and best value, whilst overseeing major repairs plus projects for external clients. In particular, you will ensure accurate record keeping for our housing stock and ensure constant compliance with gas safety, asbestos, legionella, electrical and health and safety legislation.
You will also be responsible for improving and managing maintenance and major works for other internal customers across Agriculture, Commercial, Estates and Care Home (supported housing) and Community Buildings – we are far more than just Housing.
We also have great plans to expand our maintenance services to other Housing Providers and private estate owners and businesses and therefore drive, passion, professionalism and a willingness to succeed are of paramount importance.
You will be responsible for an initial budget of circa £10m and a maintenance and repair division of approximately 80 people.
Delivering maintenance services at both strategic and operational levels should be second nature to you, and you will be experienced in managing technical teams, preparing budgets, devising policies and systems, and compiling business plans. A technical qualification in Construction or Building Services is also essential, backed by familiarity with the full spectrum of contracts, including in-house, subcontract and partnership working. Familiarity with procurement and the tendering process would be very useful, as would a track record in dealing with senior stakeholders including MPs, but it’s your vision, drive and determination to make a difference that will matter most.
